Azalea Bruin boys basketball tipped-off their 2024 season Monday night taking on Bandon to start their season.
There was no lack of enthusiasm or hustle to start the season, and Bandon came out taking advantage of a slow AZ Bruin start running up a 1-5 lead in the first period of play.
It wouldn’t be until mid-way through the second period before the Bruin boys started to hit their shots rallying to 7-13 at the half-time break.
Adjustments made at the half had the AZ Bruins challenging Bandon shots on the floor, getting defensive rebounds and capitalizing on Bandon missed shots to put 8 points on the board half way through the third period to cut the lead to 15-17 before tying the score at 20-20 to end the third.
In the final period, the AZ Bruins took their first lead with the score 25-22 mid-way through fourth. Both teams traded baskets while the clock ran down in the final quarter, as the Bruin boys added 9 points to finish the period and take the 34-28 win.
The Azalea Bruin boys will be on the road at Gold Beach Wednesday.
