Coming off of an overtime win on the road against Marshfield last Wednesday, Riley Creek from Gold Beach rolled into town Monday evening to challenge the AZ Bruins.
The AZ Bruins wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the first period getting five players in the scorebook in the first. Ethan Orman #43 led all scorers in the first with 8 points from the floor and then hit 2 of 4 free throws. Colton Hill #41 and Austin Dietrich #20 also hit for 4 points in the period as the AZ Bruins rang up 21 points in the first.
With the AZ Bruin defense holding Riley Creek to just 6 points, Riley Creek woke up in the second and Riley Creek’s #31 hit a 3 pointer and #42 sunk a basket and hit a free throw as Riley Creek put up 9 points in the second.
But the AZ Bruins continued to roll with five players in the scorebook. AZ Bruin guard Wyatt Harms #32 hit a 3 pointer and both Kyler Christensen #25 and Michael Estes #30 hit a bucket and a freethrow as the AZ Bruins took a 34-15 lead into the halftime break.
After the break, Riley Creek had no answer for the AZ Bruin offense who spread the ball around and got 6 players on the scoreboard. Both Kyler Christensen #25 and Blake Delaney #31 hit 3 pointers in third as the AZ Bruins piled 14 more points on the 19 point lead. The AZ Bruin defense held Riley Creek to just 4 points scored on the inside by Zane Gray.
Holding a 49-18 lead going into the final period the AZ Bruins added another 7 points. But Riley Creek wasn’t quite done and took the ball into the paint as they made a big run late. Riley Creek got four players in the score column, with Kroben #42 hitting a bucket and then going 6 of 9 from the line.
Tyson #22 hit a 3 pointer, two buckets and a free throw and Tanner #31 hit a 3 and Nelson #20 hit two buckets as Riley Creek put up more points in the final period than all three previous quarters combined hitting for 22 points in the final period.
In the end the AZ Bruins took the 53-40 win and will be at home next Thursday, February 27th.
