On January 15, emergency personnel responded to a structure fire at 150 East River St. in Cave Junction.
Emergency personnel located 65 year old Donald Thomas deceased inside the structure.
Oregon State Police Major Crimes and Arson Detectives are investigating. A male was seen igniting and throwing a flare at the residence. Very early Wednesday morning, January 16, the Illinois Valley Fire District and American Medical Response responded to a structure fire in the 100 block of East River St.
Upon arrival of the first Illinois Valley Fire unit, a single story wood frame house had flames showing on the front and side of the building.
One person living in the house was found deceased.
The Illinois Valley Fire District was assisted by a unit from Rural Metro. Pacific Power responded and disconnected the power to the house for the safety of the firefighters. The Community Emergency Response Team from the Illinois Valley Fire District provided traffic control and filled air bottles.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Illinois Valley Fire District Fire Marshal, Oregon State Police fire investigator, and the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s investigation team.
