A Crescent City Police Officer was flagged down late Monday morning, July 26th, by a citizen reporting a male and female subject walking around in the area trying to potentially break into vehicles.
The Officer located the female subject, 30 year old Ashley Marks, near a vehicle parked in a driveway. Marks then attempted to flee, hiding behind a bush before being taken into custody for violations of prowling, possession of controlled substance paraphernalia, and false information to a peace officer.
The male subject, 41 year old Ronald Evans Jr., was located in the area as well, hiding in the same brush line.
As Officers attempted to apprehend Evans, it was discovered that Evans was armed with a small hatchet and also briefly attempted to flee the area before physically struggling with the Officer. Evans continued to resist and used the hatchet attempting to evade custody before an additional Officer arrived on scene and assisted with taking Evans into custody.
Evans was cleared at Sutter Coast Hospital and booked into the Del Norte County Jail. Evans also had two warrants for his arrest and is on active Post Release Community Supervision.
The Officer was able to return to full duty after suffering a minor injury during the incident.
