According to the U.S Geological Survey, ten earthquakes shook just offshore of Humboldt County and the town of Petrolia south of Eureka on Saturday and Sunday. The quakes, ranging from 2.9 to 4.5 in magnitude struck over a period from Saturday morning, January 2nd, to Sunday afternoon, January 3rd, between 3 and 27 miles off the coast.
There were no immediate reports of damages or injuries, and a tsunami warning was not issued.
Beginning early Saturday morning with a 4.3, the quakes continued throughout Saturday with 3.2, a 2.9, a 3.6 and a 3.0 late Saturday night just after 11:30 pm.
The shaking continued Sunday afternoon when a 4.5 quake struck in the same cluster area just before 2:30 pm, and three additional quakes up to 3.4 magnitude struck as late as 4:00 pm.
