Coach Schofield’s Lady Bruins took to the hardwood Friday night after they handed a thorough drubbing on the road to Douglas Tuesday night. A loose Lady Bruin team wasted no time picking up where they left off Tuesday.
Led by junior guard Sidney Alexander #11, the Lady Bruins took control of the game within the first four minutes of the first quarter. Alexander evidently had her Wheaties for breakfast as she buried three 3’s in the quarter as sophomore Lexee Murray hit a lay up after a defensive steal and breakaway lay-up and junior guard Avana Pettus got to the line sinking her two free throws. The Lady Bruins led 13-8 at the end of the first period and never looked back.
In the second period, the Lady Bruins turned up the defense and the tempo and simply ran the Lady Bulldogs into the ground. The Lady Bruins put six different players in the scorebook with sophomore guard Lexi Schofield #1 leading the way with 5 points from a 3 pointer and a basket in the period as the Lady Bruins struck for 18 points in the quarter.
Trailing 31-18 coming out from the halftime break the Lady Bulldogs attacked the Lady Bruins and put up 15 points in the period. The Lady Bruins could only manage 9 points in the third period led by Lexi Schofield who got to the free throw line four times and hitting all four.
In the fourth period, Lady Bruin Sierra Fitzhugh #00 felt left out of the party and dropped 8 points from two 3’s and basket. Senior forward Mickey Fulton #2 hit 4 of her 8 points and Sidney Alexander finished her 14 point night with another 3 pointer as the Lady Bruins ran away from Sutherlin late and finished the game with the 57-41 win.
“I thought the girls played with great energy. We were able to speed them up just out of their comfort zone at times and our defensive effort sustained us when we had cold stretches offensively, which was really nice” Coach Schofield said after the game.
The Lady Bruins will defend their 2-0 league record at 7:30 pm at home Tuesday night against the 1-1 St. Mary’s Crusaders who roll into town after handing Douglas a 50-39 loss.
