Fog and Icy Road Conditions Contribute to Multi-Vehicle Crash

Early Monday morning, multiple emergency units were mobilized from Rural Metro Fire, American Medical Response, Oregon Dept. Of Transportation, Oregon State Police and local towing companies, when seven vehicles were involved in a multi vehicle crash including an Oregon Dept. Of Transportation pickup, several vehicles and two semi trucks piled-up on Southbound Interstate 5.

As of 8:30 Monday morning, the freeway remained blocked by a semi and multiple vehicles. Emergency crews continued to tend to approximately 2 patients, including one that needed to be extricated from their vehicle.

Eight individuals were involved, but only two were transported to Three Rivers Hospital with what appeared to be non life-threatening injuries. One patient had to be extricated from their vehicle by Rural Metro Firefighters as southbound traffic was stopped for several hours.

Conditions observed on scene by rescue crews included fog and an icy road surface, however, the Oregon State Police is investigating the exact cause of the crash.

Similar weather conditions are expected all week, and motorists are urged to drive with extreme caution on all roads.
