If you’re traveling this Thanksgiving, please prepare for rain and higher elevation snow over the higher Cascade passes. Also, Mt. Ashland and Crater Lake should see snow during this event!
A significant pattern change with valley rain and mountain snow is in store starting late Tuesday and continuing through Thanksgiving weekend. If traveling on Wednesday or days after, be prepared for less than ideal travel conditions and leave earlier if possible.
Rain will likely arrive at the coast Tuesday night, then could spread inland across much of the remainder of the area Wednesday into Thanksgiving Day. There could also be snow in the mountains. It’s been a while since we’ve seen significant precipitation across southwest Oregon and northern California.

After more than three weeks with little to no rainfall, we expect moderate to heavy rain to affect portions of Southern Oregon and Northern California during this busy travel time. This means that all the oil built up from the past weeks will rise to the surface when it begins to rain. Also, there will be an increase in the number of travelers during this busy season.
All of this will cause slippery roads and increase the risk for accidents. Therefore, it is important to take it slow, especially when going around corners and when going downhill.
