A series of grass fires beginning Saturday afternoon in the Gasquet area has prompted Fire Officials to suspect an arson is at work in the area.
Beginning just after noon on Saturday November 10th, Gasquet Fire Department was dispatched to an area off of Siskiyou Fork Rd. First responders came upon a series of small fires all within a half mile of each other.
Unlike most fires reported in other areas, the weather was not a factor as winds were light and high humidity slowed the fires advancement.
Officials believe that the fires are deliberate and that access to the area was purposely blocked in several areas in what appeared to be an attempt to slow or stop fire response.
Reports throughout Monday and Tuesday indicated that authorities were pursuing and attempting to locate a person of interest who was eluding their personnel regarding the situation.
Late Tuesday evening it was reported that local law enforcement had captured the suspected arson on Stoney Creek trail.
