On Tuesday, October 23, at approximately 5:00 PM. Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a single-vehicle crash on I-5 between Medford and Phoenix.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a white 1985 Toyota PU was southbound on Interstate 5 when for unknown reasons left the roadway and traveled onto the shoulder where it rolled and came to rest in some blackberry bushes adjacent to the freeway.
The operator identified as 32-year-old Ryan Hitt from Ashland, was not wearing a safety belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Oregon State Police was assisted by Jackson County Fire and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
