Woman Steals Ambulance Leading Police on 30 Mile Chase

On Monday afternoon, September 17th just before 3:30pm, while medics for Bay Cities Ambulance were administering CPR to a person in an unrelated incident, 37 year old Christy Lynn Woods stole the Bay Cities Ambulance.

The Roseburg woman then proceeded to lead the Oregon State Police, Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies and Roseburg Police units on a 30-mile pursuit on Interstate 5 northbound, according to a Roseburg Police Department report.

An Oregon State Trooper, attempting to clear traffic in front of the pursuit in his Ford Crown Victoria police cruiser was struck by the woman in the ambulance sending the troopers cruiser spinning through the wire median and into southbound traffic on the other side.

The woman continued down Interstate-5 exiting at exit 148 after her tires were spiked by authorities a few miles before. 37 year old Christy Lynn Woods surrendered at the Arco Gas Station off John Long Road, and was detained without further incident.

The police cruiser was totaled in the crash, and the ambulance sustained significant damage, however, the trooper himself received only minor injuries.

37 year old Christy Lynn Woods was arrested and charged with Attempted Assault I, Assault II, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Attempting to Elude in a Vehicle, Failure to Perform Duties of Driver, Criminal Mischief I X 2, Reckless Endangering, Reckless Driving, Interfering with a Medical Services Provider, and Driving While Suspended.
