The Lady Bruins varsity soccer team took to the field after a week off from pre-season tune up games and handled the Lady Lancers from South Umpqua as if they have been playing games everyday.
The Lady Lancers played Brookings-Harbor tough in the first half, however, the game was played in the South Umpqua half of the field. The Lady Bruins controlled the ball with passing and aggressiveness, not allowing the Lady Lancers to put passes together or even control the ball without a Bruin player challenging the possession.
The game was scoreless in the first half as the Lady Bruins missed some well set up shots keeping the Lady Lancers in the game at the half.
Six minutes into the second half, Senior center half, Anna Serna #17 gathered up a break away and placed a left footed shot into the corner of the goal from 20 yards out.
The Serna goal opened the gates as the Lady Bruins pressed into the penalty box repeatedly in the second half and the Lady Lancers began to attempt to just get the ball out of the zone. A corner kick from senior midfielder #18 Elena Morosky would be the next score as her kick from the corner confused the Lady Lancer keeper who attempted to punch the ball out instead of possessing it that resulted in the ball finding the corner of the net.
Junior striker #10 Avana Pettus would score next on a break away on the right side of the penalty box at the 14:00 minute mark as she controlled a bouncing ball with the outside of her left foot to find the back of the net.
Pettus would end the scoring just 6 minutes later when Anna Serna would place a cross within the reach of Pettus who fearlessly challenged the Lady Lancer keeper with a header that beat the keeper to the back of the net giving the Lady Bruins the 4-0 shut out.
The Lady Bruins continue their season play this Thursday, September 20th on the road at the 0-3 Glide/Yoncalla Eagles at 5:00pm.
