Woman Wanders through Walmart Injuring Herself with Knife

Early on Thursday morning, September 13th, at around 7:00am, the Grants Pass Police Department received a phone call from an employee inside the Grants Pass Walmart.

The employee reported that a female was inside the store with a knife and was cutting herself leaving a blood trail throughout the store.

The Grants Pass Police arrived on the scene within four minutes of the initial call and were immediately informed that the woman was now in the womens restroom with now two knives near the front of the store.

A perimeter was set up around the bathrooms and the officers then began to evacuate Walmart’s employees and customers from the store. Officers established communication with the woman before negotiators from the Critical Incident Negotiations Team took over the situation.

Walmart remained closed for the duration of the negotiations which went on for two hours before negotiators managed  to convince the woman to surrender to police officers without further incident. Other than the self-inflicted wounds, no other injuries were reported.

Once taken into custody, the woman was immediately treated by Paramedics from American Medical Response. Due to the signigicant self=inflicted injuries, the female was taken to Three Rivers Medical Center for treatment.

The woman was cited for charges of disorderly conduct related to the Walmart event and remained at the hospital for medical and psychological treatment. Due to the mental health component of the incident, the womans name is not being released.

Walmart remained closed for a significant amount of time after the event concluded for Bio-hazard clean up.
