Tuesday afternoon was the home opener for the Brookings-Harbor High School boys varsity soccer team as the Monarchs from Umpqua Valley Christian / Melrose Christian rolled into town.
Second-year Coach Jess Beaman seems to have his team firing on all cylinders as the Bruins wasted no time taking control of the game with a goal in the first 2 minutes of play.
Luke Beaman started the scoring with a shot from outside the left side of the penalty box and arcing in across the face of the goal and into the right corner of the goal less than 3 minutes into the game.
After Jair Valdovinos took control of the ball outside the penalty box, a quick pass into the penalty box created an assist opportunity for Valdovinos as Beaman again found the back of the net as the ball rattled around in front of the goal.
Taking a 2-0 lead into the second half, the Bruins took full advantage of the strong wind and powered the ball into the Monarchs half of the field. Just minutes into the second half, a personal foul created a Bruin free kick from about 35 yards out. Luke Beaman again took the shot, using the wind to his advantage powered a kick that found its way past the keeper in the top right of the goal increasing the Bruin lead to 3-0 early in the 2nd half.
The Bruin defense was strong, allowing few shots in the game and keeping the Monarch offense from putting together any coordinated offensive attacks and sweeping out any loose balls in front of the net.
The Bruins went on to put 7 goals behind the Monarchs goalkeeper, and Luke Beaman scored them all, with 3 of those goals from direct free kicks.
The Bruins will try to continue their winning streak when they meet Sutherlin at Sutherlin this Friday at 1:30 pm.
