The National Weather Service Issues Red Flag Warning

The National Weather Service in Medford has issued a Red Flag Warning…which is in effect from 11 PM this evening to 11:00am Monday.

The weather will become hot and dry across inland northern California this weekend. Additionally, locally strong northeast winds will be found across some of the higher terrain of interior Del Norte County, especially late tonight, Sunday morning, and again Sunday night and early Monday morning. These winds will be accompanied by low relative humidity, even during the overnight and morning hours. A Red Flag Warning is in effect. Watch out for critical fire weather conditions in this area this weekend.

Brookings:

* Impacts…Strong, gusty wind with poor overnight recoveries could
contribute to a significant spread of any new and existing fires.
Dry and breezy conditions could also contribute to enhanced fire
activity.

* Affected area: In Southwest OR…Generally higher-terrain areas of Fire Weather
Zones 619 and 620 including the Klondike Fire.

Agness:

* Counties affected: Generally higher-terrain areas of Curry and
Western Josephine Counties in Oregon.

* Wind…East to northeast 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph.

Cave Junction:

* Humidity: Nighttime humidity recoveries 25 to 35 percent. Daytime
minimum humidity 15 to 25 percent.

Any new fires will have the potential to spread rapidly. Report any new fire starts to 911. Take precautions to avoid starting fires. Never use lawnmowers in dry vegetation. Properly secure trailer chains. Make sure cigarette butts are extinguished.
