Search for Cave Junction Shooter Leads to SWAT Incident

On Wednesday, August 15th, 2018 at 3:22 PM, Officers with the Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety received information that Dillon Gomez was observed at 1474 Blake Ct. in Grants Pass. Gomez is wanted for an attempted murder incident that occurred in Cave Junction. Gomez is reported to be armed and dangerous. A search warrant was ultimately obtained for the location and Gomez.

Due to the increased threat, officers surrounded the location, which was a living area above a garage, and asked the occupants to come outside. During the initial contact, several individuals exited. Officers could hear movement and activity still and believed other subjects, including Gomez, were still inside. After several requests via loud hailing, there was no response from the subjects inside. At that point, due to the increased threat of weapons and severity of crimes involved, Grants Pass SWAT was activated.

Once SWAT arrived on the scene, several more attempts were made to get the subjects to come out of the location. There was no response and movement could s*ll be heard. SWAT utilized several diversion devices and chemical munitions to convince the subjects to come outside. Eventually, one male exited the and was taken into custody. It was believed Gomez was still in the residence based on statements made by those who had been inside.

Continued attempts were made to ensure occupants came out. Due to the length of time SWAT was on the scene, as well as extreme heat and air quality issues, the Oregon State Police SWAT team was contacted for assistance. OSP responded and continued to work the incident. Eventually, the location was checked and it was determined Gomez was not present. His whereabouts are not known and we are asking for the public to continue to provide information on his location.
