Couple Steals Fire Engine at Brush Fire

According to Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, on Saturday afternoon Engine 111, a Type 1 #MetroFire engine, was stolen from the scene of a brush fire on Elkhorn Blvd. just outside Sacramento, Ca.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office reported that the truck was taken by a man while firefighters were working to put out a nearby brush fire.

The man reportedly picked up his girlfriend after stealing the truck and the two led law enforcement on an almost 100 mile chase that reached over 70 mph and lasted about two hours traveling through Sacramento, Butte, Placer and Yuba counties.

The chase eventually came to an end when spike strips were deployed and the truck lost a front right tire. The engine, valued at $1 million, was visibly damaged in the incident of which the extent will be assessed by their Fleet Division.

Numerous law enforcement agencies pursued the engine and contributed in the apprehension of 2 suspects and the recovery of the fire engine near the Butte County community of Yankee Hill with the California Highway Patrol.

Investigators say the two suspects took turns driving and believe they were both under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time. They’re both facing several felony charges.
