Ocean Kayaking with Our Intrepid Explorer Dave

It was one of those rare days on the Oregon Coast on Monday… no wind and no swell. Flat calm and inviting. Sun was out, & temperatures were in the high 70’s. Perfect day to get out and explore the Oregon Coastline!

Perfect Kayaking weather! I set off and paddled a mile or so from Whaleshead Beach to Indian Sands to some caves and coves near Indian Sands.

A short clip from within the cave/tunnels at Indian Sands.

On this beautiful southern Oregon day I saw lots of healthy inter-tidal sea life…,

many varieties of starfish, anemones, and seaweeds.

Paddled all the way through this tunnel! Had to lay down flat on my kayak to get under that one really low spot.

I paddled through a couple of really large, healthy groves of Bull Kelp, which is the fastest growing seaweed in the world…, growing up to 6 inches a day and up to 100ft. in length!

I saw some seals out there too…but, as we all should do when we encounter wildlife, I stayed far away to not disturb sea life, at least a 100 yards.

You shouldn’t ever try this alone, and you should always be very aware of the local weather patterns.. even days with no swell can get you into waves from afternoon winds picking up. But today…nice and calm!
