On Monday afternoon at about 1:30 p.m., the Brookings Fire and Harbor Fire departments were dispatched for a power line down igniting the grass in a pasture.
Arriving units quickly had the fire out after Coos-Curry electric crews de-energized the line and units extinguished the fire before it could spread into other dry areas.
While grass and brush appear to be green, they are drying out quickly with the dry warm days and warm winds of late and are ready to burn. Remember to create defensible areas around your property, and be very careful with power equipment use and campfires.
