On Tuesday afternoon at approximately 4:54 PM, Illinois Valley Fire District and American Medical Response were requested to respond to a car fire in California just north of the Collier Tunnel with two burn patients.
Upon arrival, an Illinois Valley Fire District paramedic began patient assessment and treatment. American Medical Response Medic 4 arrived and took over treatment patient care. Both patients had numerous burns.
A medical helicopter was requested from Mercy Flights and Reach but both could not fly due to weather. A second ambulance was requested from Del Norte County.
Illinois Valley Fire District 8901 arrived and extinguished the fire. Gasquet (CA) Fire District arrived soon after assumed control of the incident.
The cause is under investigation by California Highway Patrol and Gasquet Fire.
