Bruin Boys Complete the Sweep of St. Mary’s

Junior right-handed pitcher, Lincoln Rosenberg, #7, wnt 4 innings, allowed one hit, striking out six.

Head coach Kieth Wallin and his Bruin boys varsity baseball team has picked up where it left off last year, reaching the the 2024 OSAA 3A Baseball Championship round, after starting regular season play on a five game winning streak.  

Senior second baseman, Talan Pryor, #2, making the play at second base, also went 1 for 3 with 4 RBI, and scoring once.

After roughing up Rogue River to start the season, the Bruin boys started a three game series with the St. Mary’s Crusaders last week taking the 16-6 win before completing the series Friday afternoon on what would turn out to be a  beautiful day for baseball.

The Bruins would dominate the Crusaders in both games on Friday afternoon, starting with an eight run first inning to establish a large early lead after junior right-hander Lincoln Rosenburg, #7, shut down the St. Mary’s offense in the top of the first.

Junior Sam Brouillard, #8, completing the tag for the out at third, went 2-6 at the plate, with 3 RBI and scored 3 runs.

The Bruins would add runs in the first three innings of play, putting up eighteen points in the opening three innings while the Bruin defense shut out the Crusaders to take the 18-0 win in the opening game.  

Freshman Brody Bavaro, #27, with the stretch at first base to record the out, also went 1 for 3 with scoring 4 times with 3 RBI.

In the second game of the afternoon, senior Talan Pryor, #2, took the mound for coach Wallin and held the Crusaders scoreless before St. Mary’s got on the board in the third, scoring once after the Bruins took a 4-1 lead after three innings.

The Bruins blew the game open in the bottom of the fourth inning, putting up eight points to establish a 12-1 lead going into the top of the fifth inning, forcing the Crusaders to score to keep the game alive after five innings. The Bruins would shut out St. Mary’s in the top of the fifth to complete the sweep of the Crusaders.  

The Bruin boys will be hostinf the North Valley Knights, coming off a three game sweep of Lakeview, Tuesday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 4:00pm.
