With Spring sports programs now in full swing, another outstanding Brookings-Harbor High School student athlete has been chosen Barron’s ‘Star Student Athlete’. Student athletes are selected by their coach’s for their outstanding efforts in the sports arena, as well as their exemplary scholastic and community participation.

This weeks selection, chosen by girls varsity golf head coach Max Whitley, is junior Adison Hodges, a two sport athlete who also participates on the girls varsity basketball team for head coach Kara Miller where she was picked 1st team all league and chosen to participate in the all star game.

“Over the past three years, I’ve had the privilege of coaching Adison on the golf course and teaching her in the classroom, and she has consistently stood out as an exceptional young woman who consistently leads by example” coach Whitley told the Compass.

Adison has maintained a cumulative 3.5 GPA while playing two varsity sports and carrying multiple college level classes for 3 years including College US History, College Language & Composition, Algebra II, Body Structure & Functions Science and Leadership as she starts visiting campuses and considers pursuing a career in Industrial Design and works at both the golf course and the city pool as a lifeguard over the summer months.

“Adison leads by example” coach Whitley continued, “whether it’s grinding out an extra hour on the driving range, encouraging a younger teammate after a tough round, or staying after class to master a challenging math concept. Her work ethic is unmatched. She’s the kind of student athlete who never complains, always asks thoughtful questions, and constantly pushes herself and those around her to be better.”

“Right now, I’m really just trying to take everything in and not stress too much about locking in on a specific path.” Adison told the Compass. “I’ve definitely thought a lot about playing basketball and/or golf in college, but over the last couple of years I’ve gotten really serious about the field of design and my focus is definitely shifting more toward my future in Industrial Design.

“Adison is calm under pressure, incredibly coachable, and fiercely determined, but she balances that drive with humility and kindness. She’s the first to volunteer, the last to leave practice, and the one every teammate looks up to. She is someone I could always count on to set the tone, welcome new players, and represent our school with pride and integrity. She’s a rare combination of talent, character, and heart, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this honor.” – head coach Max Whitley
Congratulations Adison, we are confident that you will continue to be successful in any endeavor you should choose to pursue.
Special thanks to corporate sponsor Barron’s Home Furnishings who make this recognition possible.
