Bruin Girls Roar Back to Complete the Sweep of Rogue River

Sophomore right-hander, Emmy Armstrong, #10, went 7 innings, striking out 13.

The Bruin girls softball team hosted their first homegame of the season Friday after winning their first league game of the season in Rogue River 7-3, Tuesday.  

But the Lady Chieftains would answer in the top of the fourth, putting five points of their own to take another five point lead that the Bruin girls offense would fail to match before shutting down the Lady Chieftain offense in the top of fifth.

On Friday, the Bruin girls hosted Rogue River, and the Lady Chieftains came ready play, scoring twice in the first inning. Trailing 0-2, the Bruin girls didn’t answer offensively until after Rogue River added three more runs in the third, before the Bruin girls put up five runs in the bottom of the third to tie the score at 5-5 after three.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Bruin girls would rally, putting up six runs after loading the bases for a Sahara Sankoh #14 grand slam before adding another two runs to retake an 11-10 lead after five innings.

Bruin girls pitching would take over the game after Bruin girls pitcher, sophomore Emmy Armstrong, #10, shut down the Rogue River offense down, shutting them out in the top of the 5th, 6th and 7th.

The Bruin girls would work two insurance runs across the plate in the bottom of the sixth to insure a 13-10 win in Friday afternoon’s opening game of the double header.

In the second game of the afternoon, the Bruin girls again fell behind in the first inning. However, Bruin girls pitching would take control of the game from the top of the second on after senior pitcher, Jaci Arlandson #28, shut down the Lady Chieftains, holding them scoreless for five innings as the Bruin girls offense produced runs in every inning to take the 13-3 win and complete the sweep over Rogue River.  

The now 3-0 Bruin girls will be at Del Norte Monday afternoon for another non-league contest with first pitch set for 4:00pm.
