Luke Beaman and his 2-7 Bruin boys varsity basketball team tipped-off their final regular season game at home after the 7-3 St. Mary’s Crusaders made the trip from to the coast from Medford Thursday evening.

The Bruin boys challenged the Crusaders offensively to start the first period pushing the ball up court quickly looking for opportunities to drive inside and get to the basket, finishing the first trailing by three.

After keeping it close in the first, the Bruin boys stuck to their game plan, continuing to challenge the Crusaders in the paint and dropping back into their 2-3 defense to force the Crusader offense to shoot from the perimeter to take a five point 27-22 lead into the locker room at the half.

But the Crusaders made adjustments at the half, forcing the Bruins to the perimeter after shutting down the lane and not allowing drives inside to basket, and then running on the Bruins to score on fast break opportunities, holding the Bruin boys to just five points in the period while establishing an 18 point 32-50 lead.

In the fourth period, the Bruin boys fought to get back in the game pushing their way through the Crusader defense for ten points in the period, but St. Mary’s would counter, running up seventeen points in the fourth period to keep the game out of reach in the final period to take the 42-67 win to close out the regular season.
