High energy was the name of the game as head coach Kara Miller and her BHHS varsity girls basketball team took to the hardwood floor Wednesday evening, hosting the Pacific Lady Pirates in a non-league contest.
In the first period, the Bruin girls set the tone, pressing and trapping the Lady Pirates forcing Pacific out of their offense and providing the Bruin girls with scoring opportunities, taking a 13-8 lead after the first period.
In the second period, the Bruin girls kept up the pressure as the Lady Pirates struggled to get into any offensive rhythm, pressuring Pacific full court and taking a 16-11 lead midway through the second period. The Lady Pirates would gather some momentum as the period continued, before the Bruin girls took a 27-14 lead into the locker room at the half.
However, the break was not beneficial to the Lady Pirates who’s half time adjustments were unsuccessful as the Bruin girls again shut down the Pacific offense and put up 14 points in the first half of the third on their way to taking a 47-21 lead going into the fourth period.
In the final period, the managed one basket to start the period adding five more points as the period came to a close, however, the Bruin girls offense would hit for eleven points to close out the game, securing a 30 point lead and going on to take the 58-28 win.
The Bruin girls will be on the road this Friday, traveling to a neutral site at Rogue River High School, to take on the Lady Honkers who will make the trip from Lakeside for Friday evenings match up with tip-off set for 6:00pm.
