U.S. Highway 199 fully opened late Friday afternoon, December 20th according to Caltrans, after being closed Thursday December 12th, by the California Highway Patrol with ‘No estimated time for reopening’ after a landslide occurred north of South Fork Road.
After being closed and later opened to controlled traffic since December 12th, workers had cleared the roadway and conducted some temporary repairs north of Hiouchi. The highway’s status continues to be subject to change and monitors will remain on-site to ensure safe passage and conduct changes if necessary.
However, late Sunday evening, December 23rd, U.S. Hwy. 199, rock slides again forced CalTrans to report that Hwy. 199 was returned to 1-way controlled traffic at various locations up Hwy. 199, from 3.9 miles north of the intersection with Hwy. 197 to 1.4 miles South of Gasquet.
No further updates have been released as of early Monday morning, December 23rd.
