Azalea Middle School boys basketball was home hosting Myrtle Creek, who made the long trip to southern Oregon to challenge the Azalea Bruin boys.
The Azalea boys wasted no time in the first quarter of play, immediately pressuring Myrtle Point after controlling the tip and jumping out to a 14-2 lead early, before extending their lead to 22-6 to close out the first period.
In the second period, the Azalea boys continued to stifle the Myrtle Creek offense, allowing only 7 Myrtle Creek points midway through the second period while adding 10 points of their own to extend their lead to 32-14 to end the first half of play.
Extending their lead to an 18 point, 32-14 lead to start the third period, Myrtle Creek tried to get some quick scores to close the gap, but the Azalea boys defense pressured Myrtle Creek at mid court and ran on Myrtle Creek after every turnover and missed shot, putting another 15 points on the board to make the score 47-22 at the end of three.
The Azalea boys defense turned up the pressure in the final quarter, again keeping Myrtle Creek off the scoreboard adding another 12 points to end the fourth quarter and take the 59-24 win.
The Azalea boys will be on the road next Tuesday, traveling to Pacific.
