Bruin Boys Varsity Soccer Starts Season with a Win

Head coach John Silveira and the BHHS Bruin boys varsity soccer team started league play, taking on the Rogue Valley Adventist Acadamy Hawks, who made the trip to the coast from Medford Tuesday afternoon, September 24th.

#20, started the scoring early for the Bruins.

Both teams battled for much of the first half to control midfield play the Bruins would start the scoring just 9:00 minutes into the contest on a breakaway goal to take an early 1-0 lead.

Much of the first half would turn into a struggle by both teams to control midfield play before a Hawks foul just outside the penalty box resulted in a Zander Carlson goal off of a direct free kick from yards out with just under 2:00 minutes left in the first half.

Sitting on a 2-0 lead to start the second half, a relaxed Bruin team methodically took control of the midfield, setting up multiple scoring chances before a fast break opportunity resulted in a #4, Tanner Anderson, goal, extending the the Bruins lead to 3-0 26:00 minutes into the second half.

Much of the second half was played in the Hawks half of the field, however a Bruin defensive breakdown in front of the Bruins goal allowed the Hawks to get on the board on a second chance opportunity, making the score 3-1 Bruins with just over 4:00 minutes left in the game.

Senior striker, Tanner Anderson, would score in the second half off of a fast break opportunity.

As the final minutes ticked off the clock, senior striker Tanner Anderson, #4, was fouled in the penalty box, and junior midfielder Neric Garcia, #7, would put the penalty shot in the back of the net as time expired, to finalize the 4-1 Bruin victory.

The now 1-0 Bruins will be on the road Thursday, traveling to Rogue River to challenge the Rogue River Chieftains, with kick-off slated for 4:00pm Thursday afternoon.
