Roll Over Crash Sends Two to the Hospital

Early Monday evening, September 16th, a caller reported to 911 that a vehicle had struck a power pole on Holland Loop Rd, in Cave Junction, with an occupant trapped in the vehicle at approximately 5:21pm.  

Multiple agencies responded to the incident including the Illinois Valley Fire District, American Medical Response and Josephine County Sheriff’s Deputies.

First responders arrived to find the vehicle on its roof after shearing off a power pole, with an occupant trapped inside with and another occupant that had been ejected from the vehicle during the crash.  

According to witnesses, the vehicle passed in a no passing zone at a high rate of speed, lost control on a corner and crashed into the power pole.  

The power pole had been sheared off at the base leaving power lines hanging in the trees requiring Pacific Power to respond.  

The occupant trapped in the vehicle was extricated by the Illinois Valley Fire Department before both occupants were transported to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford. One by Mercy Flights helicopter and the other by American Medical Response ambulance.  

Both occupants were reported to be “stable” by hospital staff and the crash is currently under investigation.
