Man Drowns in Rogue River near Lobster Creek

Several 911 calls began to be received by the Curry County Sheriff’s Dispatch mid afternoon July 4th, regarding a drowning in the Rogue River at approximately 3:30pm.

Initial reports regarding the possible drowning about nine miles east of Gold Beach, and Sheriff’s Deputies immediately responded by vehicle and by boat to the Lobster Creek area off of Jerry’s Flat Road.

Dispatch paged Cal Ore Life Flight, Gold Beach Fire as well as Reach Air, who responded by helicopter.  

Curry County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at the scene by marine boat and several first responders got on the boat and they began to search for the person who was being reported as drowned.

The individual, later identified as 42 year old Rohithumar Godhani from Milipitas, Ca., was in the area recreating with his family when he entered the water for unknown reasons.  

About a hundred yards down river from where Godhani had entered the water, searchers in the boat located Godhani in six feet of water. Godhani had been submerged for almost an hour from the time he went under water to when he was located.  

CPR was started by medics and first responders on scene and flight medics from Reach Air arrived and continued lifesaving efforts, however, Godhani was pronounced deceased.  

The Curry County District Attorney and the Curry County Medical Examiner were notified and authorized release of Godhani to Redwood Memorial out of Brookings.
