Traffic Stop Leads to Robbery Suspect Arrest

On March 3, 2018 at approximately 9:45 pm, Medford Police officers responded to the Subway at 65 Rossanley Drive, for a reported armed robbery. Officers were on scene within minutes and began searching the area with the assistance of a Jackson County Sheriff K-9. The suspect was not located and believed to have fled in a vehicle.

The lone employee told officers a Hispanic male entered the restaurant, brandished a firearm and demanded money from the cash register and tip jar. The suspect fled the business with an undisclosed amount of money.

The employee was able to provide officers with a detailed description of the suspect who was also captured on video surveillance.

On March 4, 2018, at approximately 11:00 pm, a Medford Police officer initiated a traffic stop on a 2011 Kia Sorrento, for a traffic infraction. Upon contact with the two occupants, the officer observed the driver, 40-year-old, Tommy Olivares, resembled the robbery suspect as seen in video surveillance and by the description provided by the Subway employee.

Olivares was arrested on an outstanding warrant and was found to be in possession of Heroin. During a search of the vehicle, officers located a replica handgun that resembled the weapon used during the robbery. The vehicle was seized in connection with the investigation.

Medford Police detectives interviewed Olivares and he has been charged with Robbery 2, Menacing, and Theft 2. He was lodged at the Jackson County Jail.
