Del Norte County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Wal-Mart for a welfare check Friday, May 31st, and located an individual asleep in his vehicle.
Deputies had reason to believe that the individual, identified as 34 year old James Steinmetz of Oregon, had narcotics in his vehicle.
Steinmetz was removed from the vehicle and K9 Zuko was deployed for a free air sniff, and alerted to the odor of narcotics within the vehicle.
Deputies located approximately 4 ounces of suspected fentanyl, 1.1 grams of methamphetamine and 38 doses of LSD during a search of the vehicle, including numerous cell phones and other evidence pertaining to the sale and use of narcotics was also located.
Steinmetz was arrested and booked for possession for sale of a controlled substance, and transport of a controlled substance.
