Semi Crash Closes U.S. Highway 199 East of Crescent City

Very early Thursday morning, May 16th, Crescent City Area California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a crash located on U.S. Highway 199 a few miles east of Crescent City, just before Clark’s Creek at approximately 3:00am.

The crash was identified by first responders as a single vehicle crash involving a 2016 Peterbilt Semi Truck pulling a 2008 Walker Tanker trailer loaded with less than 80,000 lbs of juice operated by Little King Transportation LLC.

As the vehicle was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 199, the tractor trailer crashed into a redwood tree on the southbound shoulder of Hwy.199, causing the axle of the trailer to break loose of the trailer, disabling the Semi Truck in the southbound lane.

Hwy. 199 southbound was diverted onto State Route 197 to accommodate the recovery of the disabled vehicle.

No one was injured in the crash and did not cause any spillage of the contents of the trailer.

The driver of the Semi Truck was determined to be sober at the time of the crash and the crash remains under investigation.
