Brookings-Harbor varsity boys soccer has come out swinging to start their 2023/24 season after traveling to Lakeview last Thursday to challenge the Honkers to start league play.
After handing the Honkers an 8-0 defeat on the road, head coach John Silveira and his Bruins boys varsity soccer team walked onto the field Tuesday afternoon brimming with confidence as they hosted the 0-1 Rogue River Chieftains coming off a 1-9 loss to the Rogue Valley Adventist Academy last Thursday.
It took a little time for the Bruin boys to find their game, when they did just over 10:00 minutes into the first half after junior, Tanner Anderson, broke away on a fast break opportunity before gathering up a loose ball in front of the Chieftain to score again just moments later giving the Bruins a 2-0 early lead.
The Bruins would control the field of play with passing that tired Rogue River, allowing the Bruins to four more goals in the first half including two from sophomore Neric Garcia, #7, including a penalty kick conversion late in the first half.
Leading 6-0 to start play in the second half the Bruins attacked quickly scoring in the first four minutes of the second half, ultimately taking their second 8-0 win to start their season.
The now 2-0 Bruins will be home Friday afternoon hosting the 3-0 Lost River Pirate team coming off an 8-0 win themselves Tuesday afternoon against Rogue River Adventist Academy.
