Grants Pass Police detectives, along with detectives from the Oregon State Police and Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the scene and upon arrival, officers learned that the suspect driver, later identified as 23 year old Brennon Machado, had fled the scene on foot after striking and mortally wounding an 18 year old male victim who was found deceased at the scene despite emergency efforts.
Subsequent investigation determined that the suspect had intentionally struck the victim with the car during a disturbance and fled the scene on foot, initiating an hours long exhaustive search by Police officers and K-9 units from the Grants Pass Police Department, the Oregon State Police, US Forest Service Law Enforcement Rangers, and the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office, in the wooded hills in the Northwest portion of Grants Pass, however, the suspect was not located.
After the suspect was not located during the search, the Grants Pass Police Department asked for the public’s help locating 23 year old Brennon Machado, who, with the assistance of Oregon State Police troopers, was located and taken into custody without incident early Tuesday evening, July 4th.
