Very early Saturday morning, June 17th, the Curry County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 transfer call from the Brookings Police Department just before 1:30am, regarding a suspicious conditions call at a residence on Winchuck River Road.
The caller reported a male subject on the porch, and that the male subject’s face was cut up as if he may have been in an accident.
The Curry County Sheriff’s Office dispatched a Deputy to the residence and within a few minutes had contacted the male subject identifying him as 23 year old Jon Bourelle.
It was during the Deputies contact with Bourelle that the Deputy was informed of the residence of 59 year old James Bourelle. The Deputy responded to that residence and found James Bourelle deceased from an apparent homicide.
Jon Bourelle had been transported to the Curry Medical Center in Brookings by Cal Ore Life Flight Ambulance due to some injuries he had sustained while two Brookings Police Officers accompanied Jon Bourelle at Curry Medical Center as the investigation continued.
Two Sheriff’s Detectives, along with other deputies, were summoned to the residence along with the Curry County District Attorney, who was notified and requested to assist the Curry County Major Crime Team.
Jon Bourelle was arrested a short time later and transported to the Curry County Jail, where he was booked on charges of First Degree Murder, Second Degree Murder and First Degree Manslaughter.
The Curry County Sheriff’s Office will be continuing the investigation and all information and evidence will be presented to the Curry County District Attorney for prosecution. Due to the on-going investigation, no further information will be provided at this time.
