Head Coach Keith Wallin and his 2023 varsity boys baseball program has hit the base-paths running going 5-2 to start their new season, and hosting their first homegame since late March certainly helped them keep the base-paths full Thursday.
Hosting the Sutherlin Bulldogs for a Thursday afternoon double-header, Coach Wallin sent junior right-hander Austin Dietrich, #13, to the hill to start the first game of the afternoon. Dietrich held the Bulldogs scoreless, setting the standard for Bruin pitching for the rest of the afternoon going on to pitch a two hit shut-out.
The Bruin offense would strike first, getting their first runner across the plate after a senior Seth Valliere, #15, single in the bottom of the 2nd.
Dietrich would continue to keep the Bulldogs off the bases, holding them scoreless through three. But the Bruin bats continued, putting up another in the 3rd after the Sutherlin pitcher hit a batter with bases loaded, pushing another Bruin run across the plate.
But the Bruin bats would blow the game open in the fourth and fifth inning, scoring 8 runs including a towering home-run blast to left field by junior outfielder, #24, Cameron Hendrix, securing the Bruins 9-1 victory.
In the second game of the double-header, junior left-hander, Ethan Orman, #22, took the mound for the Bruins, and holding to the standard set in the first game, held the Bulldogs scoreless for 3 innings as the Bruin offense took control of the game.
Bruin bats racked up 15 hits in the second game, putting up 19 runs in the 3rd inning alone to take the win, the double-header win and the series win with the 25-0 win.
The Bruins will be on the road next Thursday taking on the 2-5 Rogue River Chieftains at Rogue River.
