The suspect accused of fatally stabbing a cab driver in southeast Portland Sunday night, April 9th, was arrested in North Bend on Monday, April 3rd, before being released according to a Wednesday, April 12th letter released by Coos County Sheriff Gabe Fabrizio.
According to information released by Sheriff Fabrizio, on April 3rd, 2023, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office booked 30 year old Moses Lopez on the charges of Disorderly Conduct II, Criminal Trespass II, Unlawful use of a weapon x II, and menacing pursuant to his arrest by the North Bend Police Department after Lopez was accused of menacing two people with a dangerous weapon. Lopez failed to appear in Coos County Circuit Court on Thursday, and officials there issued a warrant.
Just six days later, on Sunday, April 9th, 30 year old Moses Lopez of Portland, Oregon, was arrested at the scene and accused of fatally stabbing a Radio Cab driver in Southeast Portland.
According to Sheriff Fabrizio’s Wednesday, April 12th letter, Senate Bill 48, placed Lopez’s alleged crimes into two categories. #1, Subject to release on own recognizance and #2, Subject to release with special conditions of release. Lopez’s conditions of release included a no-contact with the victim and location of the alleged crimes, no possession of firearms, weapons, ammunition, or other deadly weapons, and a court appearance date he subsequently missed, for which a felony warrant was issued.
Upon his release, Lopez fled from Coos County Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction and failed to appear in court in Coos County before becoming a suspect in the alleged attack in Portland.
