The Bruin girls varsity softball team hosted the Cascade Christian Lady Challengers for an Easter weekend double-header in their second league series of the early season.
In the opening game of the series, the Bruin girls would give up two early runs in the first inning to the 0-2 Lady Challengers and then would struggle at the plate in the bottom of the first.
Trailing 0-2 starting the second, the Lady Challengers would put together some hits and push two more runs across the plate to extend their lead to 0-4 going into the bottom of the 2nd. The Bruin girls would rally in the bottom of the second, getting a runner on base and then moving that runner around to score off of a Sarah Sankoh base hit, getting the Bruin girls on the board, 1-4.
In the 3rd, inning, right handed sophomore pitcher Jaci Arlandson, #22, kept the Lady Crusaders off the base paths, allowing no runs in the inning. The Bruin girls bats also came alive in the 3rd, getting runners on the base paths and moving those around to score 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd, after a #24, freshman, Abbie DeShon hit scored 2.
In the later innings, the Lady Crusader bats would add 8 more runs on the Bruin girls defense, with the Bruin girls only pushing 4 more runs across the plate as the Lady Crusaders would go on to take the first game 7-12.
In the second game of the afternoon, the Bruin girls offense would be much more productive, scoring 11 runs in the game. However, the Lady Crusaders would put up 21 points in the game, taking the afternoon contest 11-21.
The Bruin girls will be on the road to Sutherlin this Thursday to take on the 1-2 Sutherlin Lady Bulldogs with the first pitch at 3:00pm.
