On Monday morning, January 22nd, at approximately 9:30 am, Del Norte Sheriffs Deputies were dispatched to an address on East Madison Avenue across from the Seventh Day Adventist Church regarding a call for service and were directed towards an armed individual that was hostile.
Scanner traffic from a responding officer quickly revealed that the subject was being held at gunpoint and moments later that shots had been fired and that an officer was down.
The officer then reported to dispatch that he had been stabbed in the stomach and had been injured on his hand and that another officer had also been similarly injured.
It is approximately at this time that an officer reported to dispatch “multiple shots to suspect”.
Scanner activity moments later revealed that medical personnel was on scene attending the injured.
The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Department states that two deputies responded to a call for service and were directed towards an armed individual that was hostile. Both deputies were ultimately injured but are expected to make full recoveries.
At this time the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Department will not release information about the armed individual or his/her status but would like to thank all of the agencies that came to their assistance and community for their support.
