The Bruin girls continue to roll, after suffering their first loss of the season last week to a surprising 4-0 Lakeview Lady Honkers team.
The Bruin girls overpowered the Lady Chieftains from the opening tip, applying backcourt pressure on the Lady Chieftains ball handlers forcing early turnovers and fast break opportunities that the Bruin girls took full advantage of. Senior forward, Ashlyn Schofield led the way for the Bruin girls, hitting three 3 pointers on her way to 11 points in the first period. Defensively, the Bruin girls pressure defense held the Lady Chieftains to just 6 points in the period while compiling a 24-6 lead to end the first quarter.
The second period was much of the same, the Bruin girls pressuring the Rogue River’s ball handlers forcing bad passes and bad shots as the Bruins put their half court offense through its paces. Senior point guard Rockette Marrington, #12, broke out for 8 points with tow 3 pointers in the period, matched by Ashlyn Schofield who also had 8 points off of two 3 pointers and a basket. The Lady Chieftains had no answer for the Bruin defense, managing 1 point in the second as the Bruin girls took a commanding 47-7 lead into the locker room at the half.
Coming out after the break with a big lead, the Bruin girls refused to allow Rogue River back into the game defensively allowing only 4 Lady Chieftains points from on Rogue River player in the period. Offensively the Bruin girls changed things up with fresh faces getting most of the minutes. But the Bruin girls still scored 11 points in the period with sophomore guard Jaiden Babb #3, freshman forward #33, Adison Hodges and point guard Rockette Marrington, #12 all hitting 3 pointers as the Briun girls added to their already large lead.
In the final period, the pace slowed considerably, and the Lady Chieftains had their biggest offensive period of the game putting 7 points on the scoreboard. But the Bruin girls lead was far too much for Rogue River to overcome as senior center Marissa Scott, #15, and #33, Adison Hodges both hit baskets in the fourth and Ashlyn Schofield dropped another 3 pointer for the Bruin girls on their way to a 65-18 win.
The Bruin girls will host the 3-1 Lady Red Devils next Wednesday evening at Bruins arena, tipping off at 7:00pm.
