The Lady Bruins, who have enjoyed the comforts of home for both of their season-opening games hit the road Friday night and traveled to match-up against the 4-11 North Bend Bulldogs.

After the two teams tipped off both teams started out lethargic, out of sync, missing shots and turning the ball over. In the first period, the Lady Bruins struggled to get 4 scorers on the books. Sophomore guard Sidney Alexander #11 led the way with a 3 pointer and senior guard #5 Malia Leddy got a bucket also as freshman forward Lexi Schofield and senior guard Abby Farmer hit a free throw apiece as the Lady Bruins took a 7-5 lead after one period of play.

Coach Schofield said “We had a big case of nerves in the first quarter. I thought our defensive effort was good. But we were really tentative on offense”.

But the second quarter was a different ball game. Sophomore guard Sidney Alexander #11 buried two 3 pointers as senior guard #5 Malia Leddy hit a 3 of her own. The Bruins would Abby Farmer hit a 3pointer and a 2 pointer as Lexi Schofield and Micky Fulton hit a basket each while the Lady Bruins broke out a 19-2 2nd period. The Lady Bruins allowed only one shooter on the board in the period and only one basket and took a 26-7 lead into halftime.

Coach Schofield went on to say “that second quarter was huge for us. Really settled our nerves. Sidney Alexander hit three 3’s in the first half to give us a spark. During that big 2nd quarter, we had 6 different girls score to help against the box and one. Good team effort”.

The Lady Bruins would add 12 more points in the fourth period as North Bend added another 11. Sophomore guard Sidney Alexander #11 had perhaps her best game of the year hitting three consecutive 3 point shots and adding a 2 pointer to her 11 total points in the game.
