Head On Collision Leaves Two with Serious Injuries

On Friday, January 12th at approximately 11:00 pm, a head-on crash was reported to Josephine County 911 in the 8000 block of Williams Hwy, just east of Murphy. Rural Metro Fire & AMR-Josephine County were dispatched and responded to find a full-size pickup on its side in the road and a 4-door sedan in the ditch.

The driver of the pickup had self-extricated, but the driver of the sedan was trapped inside.

Firefighters using hydraulic extrication tools, commonly referred to as the ‘Jaws of Life’, removed the entire roof of the sedan to gain access to the driver. He was extricated in just under 30 minutes and then transported to Three Rivers Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the pickup was also transported with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Williams Highway was completely shut down for about an hour while rescue crews worked the incident. Applegate Valley Fire District and Oregon Department of Transportation assisted at the scene with traffic control, and the Oregon State Police are handling the investigation.
