Fugitive Shot and Killed in Cave Juction

On Thursday, January 11, the US Marshal Service requested local law enforcement to be on the lookout for fugitive Jeffrey Alan Burleson.

At approximately 12:30 pm Friday, January 12, local law enforcement from Josephine County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle suspected to contain Jeffrey Alan Burleson who was wanted out of the State of Florida.

The traffic stop occurred at 213 Redwood Hwy, Cave Junction, Oregon. Apparently, Burleson pulled into the Dairy Queen parking lot and upon contact with law enforcement, Jeffrey Alan Burleson displayed a firearm. A contacting law enforcement officer fired shot(s).

Jeffrey Alan Burleson was transported to Three River’s Hospital in Grants Pass and subsequently died.

The Josephine County Major Crime Team is investigating this incident.
