The 5-2 Glide Lady Wildcats girls volleyball team rolled into Brookings Wednesday evening to challenge head coach Vanessa Nidiffer and her Bruin girls volleyball team on the Bruins home court.
The Bruin girls started quick, with a lot energy, scrambling after every ball and challenging play at the net, taking an early 10-7 lead midway through the first set.
Both teams exchanged leads later in the set and the Bruin girls went into the final points of the set leading 20-18, again exchanging leads late and holding onto a 25-24 lead. But the Lady Wildcats would rally and steal the first set 28-26.
In the second set, Glide would take an early lead and squelch any Brookings-Harbor run to hold on to a small 6-10 margin.
The two teams would exchange points through out the set with each team running off 10 points and Glide managing to hold their small 4 point margin, 16-20 late in the set before going on to take the second consecutive set.
In the third set the Bruin girls just could not get into any type of rhythm consistent enough to put points on the board, and Glide took full advantage jumping out to an early 8 point lead and dictating pace in this third and decisive set.
Jumping out 4-12, Glide move the ball all over the court, forcing the Bruin girls to scramble to cover and set up returns. Glide would maintain their lead to take the third set and the match.
The Bruin girls travel to Grants Pass next Tuesday to take on the 1-4 North Valley Lady Knights at 6:00pm.
