Early Tuesday morning, January 2, Medford Police officers responded to an auto vs. pedestrian-motor vehicle crash in the 500 Block of South Central Avenue. Officers arrived within minutes of the accident and determined Richard Bengston, 63 years old, had died at the scene.
Investigators determined Bengston was crossing South Central Avenue when he was struck by a white, 2011 Honda CRV, that was traveling southbound in the left lane of South Central Avenue.
The driver of the Honda CRV, a 25-year-old Central Point man, remained on scene and was cooperative with the investigation. Several witnesses have also been interviewed. The driver has not been charged and investigators do not believe driver impairment contributed to the crash. This case will be reviewed by the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.
