The Crescent City Police Department received a call just before noon Friday, June 17th, regarding a subject possibly vandalizing property near the intersection of 7th and H Street.
Crescent City Police Chief Richard Griffin responded to the call and located 26 year old Alonzo Riley walking away from the intersection and it was confirmed that Riley had an active warrant for his arrest.
As he was walking across the road Riley pulled out a ball peen hammer from his pants and swung it at a passing car. Riley refused to stop and additional officers responded to the scene and Riley was held at gunpoint and taser point briefly until he complied with being handcuffed.
During the searching of Riley as part of the protocol to arrest him, Riley then assaulted officers by kicking them several times prior to being secured in a patrol vehicle.
Riley was arrested for his outstanding warrant, along with fresh charges of obstruct/resist, and brandishing a weapon. Riley was then booked into the Del Norte County Jail.
