Are you traveling this week for the holidays?
The U.S. National Weather Service has issued a travel warning as a low-pressure system will bring the lowest snow levels of the season down to 2000 feet beginning Tuesday and continuing through Wednesday this week.
This will be the first widespread snowfall affecting all mountain passes and will potentially impact some valleys west of the Cascades in quite a while, so be extra prepared. Snow amounts Tuesday through Wednesday could see snow on the valley floor as well as double-digit accumulations east of Interstate 5.
Snow is expected to impact all mountain passes, even those north of Grants Pass overnight Tuesday. Slippery snow-covered roads and reduced visibility are expected in some locations and travelers should plan for difficult travel conditions.
Travelers should stock emergency kits with tire chains, flashlights, batteries, as well as blankets, food, water and any needed medications.
