Highway 199 Head on Collision

Josephine County & Grants Pass Department of Public Safety were dispatched to a head-on crash on Redwood Hwy near MP 10. Initial reports indicated a person was trapped inside a vehicle that was on fire. RM Engine 7514 from the Wilderville Station arrived within minutes to find the northbound lanes of Redwood Hwy. blocked by a 4-door sedan, and a full-size pickup off the roadway on its side. The 4 occupants of the sedan all denied injury.

The adult female driver of the pickup was found suspended by her seatbelt, but not seriously injured. The small fire had already been extinguished by a bystander with a fire extinguisher. Firefighters partially removed the roof of the pickup to gain access, and the driver was quickly removed.

Redwood Hwy. was completely shut down for 45 minutes due to the debris field created by the impact, and to give rescue workers a safety zone for managing the incident. Once ODOT got into place, the roadway was slowly reopened. Oregon State Police is investigating the cause of the crash.
