The Bruin boys and girls varsity track traveled to Harrisburg, Oregon, just north of Eugene, to participate in the 3A Special District 4 track meet last Friday and Saturday, May 13th and 14th.
The two-day meet showcased the best in 3A Special District 4, and top 2 student athletes in each event earning and automatic qualifying bid, filling the remainder of the qualifying field coming from athletes who’s times, heights, and distances are within the top of the state for the State Championships looming this weekend.
Bruin athletes made their mark, qualifying 6 boys in 10 events and 2 girls in 5 events. Many Bruin athletes qualified with their best performance of the year in their event, setting personal records in many events.
Miguel Ramos was named male running athlete of the meet, qualifying for the State Championships in the 100m, 200m, 400m and 4x400m relay team. Jake Beaman qualified in three events, the triple jump, the 800m, and the 4×400 Relay team consisting of Beaman, Uriel Cortez, Ty Morris and Miguel Ramos. Kyan Myers qualified in both the 110m and 300m hurdles with personal records, Ty Morris qualified with a personal record 126′-6″ in the javelin and Colby Anderson-Nelson earned a trip to the State Championships in the 1500m.
Spensyr Gotfried placed 2nd in the girls 100m with a personal best time 13:15 seconds and followed that up with a 4th place finish qualifying for the State Championships in a personal best 27:99 seconds. In the pole vault Gotfried qualified 3rd, with a height of 8′. Megan Pearson qualified in two events, the 100m hurdles and in the long jump with a personal best jump of 15′-4.5″.
Head coach Jason Fulton and State Championships qualifiers will load the bus and be sent off to the State Championships in Track Town USA, Eugene, with a noise parade through town starting at 12:45 Wednesday afternoon.
